Hi Folks,

We have installed laminate in one room and are ready to do another in our house. We have concrete floors. The first room we did got done without any problems. However we are confused about the Underlayment that we used. We used the “Dream Home Quiet Walk Underlayment” from Lumber Liquidators. We were told that this would reduce the sound when walking on the floor. However now we have hollow sound when we walk on it (the floor is flat with no humps or dips). I thought using the premiumn underlayment would take care of this.

My question is what would cause the hollow sound and what underlayment should we use? We would like the sound to be minimal. Also our house is a 1 story house. Any help or suggestions would be apprecated.

Thanks in advance to all who respond.

We are looking to install Dream Home St. James Collection laminate flooring in our kitchen, living room, and dining room. We have narrowed it down to 3. A lighter color high gloss, a darker low gloss, and the last one is a handscraped. We like the lighter color the best (Blacksburg Barn Board) but aren’t sure how the high gloss holds up to scratching. It is one of the higher end laminates but we can’t find any reviews on it. We found reviews for the others we are looking at on the Lumber Liquidator site but not this one. Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated.

Please do not use this product. They say it is “water resistant”. It is not. If you get any moisture at all on this flooring near the end joints it will swell up and warp terriblely and they will not do anything about it. Also the end joints do not stay locked together. We have had this flooring down only a couple of months now and every day we find more end joints that are coming open. It does look great and goes down pretty easy but it will not stay locked at the end joints and will warp and swell if it even senses moisture there.
